After the initial joy of choosing and cuddling your new puppy, the sudden realization hits you that you need to train your dog so you can live together happily.
While it can be hard if you have no experience, you can avoid getting frustrated by applying the following dog training advice:
1. Start training your puppy immediately. Never place off until tomorrow what you can do today when it comes to dog training. The sooner your puppy knows what to expect, the simpler it will be as the dog gets older.
2. Consider crate training. Crate training can be a fantastic experience for the dog and the owner because its simple and effective. Your puppy will feel secure and safe in an environment that resembles a den, like dogs experience in the wild. When your puppy is comfortable in the crate, it will be simple to transport him to the vet and he is unlikely to do his dirty business around the house. Dont keep your puppy in a crate, but, longer than four hours because that is the longest they can hold off from going to the bathroom and you dont want them to grow accustomed to using the crate.
3. Be aware of when your puppy has to potty. Most dogs have to go to the restroom shortly after waking, eating or playing so make sure to take your puppy outside during these times so he can do his duty.
4. Never get mad when you are training your puppy. A fearful dog is unable to learn so rage is counterproductive for both you and your new puppy. When you use your dogs name in an mad tone, your dog may associate their name with a terrible thing, which is not a excellent thought. Positive encouragement works best during dog training. For example, if your puppy is chewing on your shoes, replace them with a chew toy and praise the pup for chewing on the toy instead.
5. Make sure your puppy plays and socializes. Eating, sleeping and training are all vital but dont forget to take time to exercise and play with your dog. Walking with your dog three times a day for at least 10 minutes and scheduling a half hour or hour of play everyday will keep your puppy healthy and pleased. Going to dog parks and having your dog socialize with other dogs and people will prevent your pup from becoming overly aggressive.
