Dog Training Basics 3 Things You Need to Knowdog training

By Richard Cross Terris

If your dog isnt well trained, not only are you making your life a lot more stressful but youre also putting the dogs life at risk. In this article Ill be going through some of the basics you need to know about dog training.

1. The Essential Commands

To have a safe well behaved dog doesnt require you to train it to talk or command or jump through hoops at the click of a finger, but there are some basic commands your dog must know. They are "sit, "stay", "down" and "release". The first three are self explanatory, but the last simply lets the dog know when it is released from a command and can move around freely.

2. The Earlier You Start Training, The Easier It Will Be

Its entirely possible to "teach an old dog new tricks", but the reality is its much easier to train a young dog. You should start to try training your dog as soon as possible. Not only is it easier to train when its young, but this will also get it used to the training method.

3. Train In Short Bursts

Dogs - like humans- tend to have short attention spans. This is even more true with puppies, who find it hard to learn for extended periods of time. Because of this, make sure you break your training sessions up into short junks. Establishing a routine of doing five minutes training in the morning, afternoon and evening can be a great way to kick start your training regime.
